Synopsis:

Purple Sour is working on a loosely based reconceptualization of Wassily Kandinsky's "Yellow Sound" for venue and concert showings. The Yellow Sound was the "earliest and most influential" of four "color-tone dramas" that Kandinsky conceived for the theater between 1909 and 1914; the others were titled The Green Sound, Black and White, and Violet. Kandinsky's pieces were part of a larger trend of their era that addressed color theory and synesthesia in works that blended multiple art forms and media. The Yellow Sound is a one-act opera without dialogue or conventional plot, divided into six "pictures." A child in white and an adult performer in black represent life and death; other figures are costumed in single colors, including five "intensely yellow giants (as large as possible)" and "vague red creatures, somewhat suggesting birds...." Purple Sour's rework includes a cast of white clad stage performers, with colors and symbolic images projected onto them, but the concept is still focused on synesthesia. Purps also has written an entire original score to accompany the stage performances. Still focused on life and death, and also the multiple experience of sensory overload and unexplainable spiritual/psychological experiences within most people's lives. Where Wassily Kandinsky focused on the abstract (in a very pre-psychedelic 1904), Sour Purps will focus on the experience and the music scoring, as well as maximizing the "synesthesia affect" on audience members by having stage performers occasionally slip into the audience, and expanding visuals beyond anything Kandinsky could have imagined.
